2016 Huaka'i

Aloha Field Schoolers!

 On this page, you will find information that will help you prepare for all of our huaka'i (field trips).  We're excited to share this summer with you learning from a variety of conservation professionals, community members, cultural practitioners, each other, and most importantly - from the 'āina!  All of our huaka'i (field trips) are meant to connect what you learn in the classroom with real world experiences that increase your knowledge on people, place, and culture.    

General field trip schedule (Tuesdays & Thursdays)
*Sack lunch provided on these days
-8:00am: Meet at classrooms P6 & P7 , use restrooms & fill up water

-8:15am: Board bus and departs NHIS
-2:00pm: Return to NHIS
-2:45pm: Pau

Thursday June 16-17, 2016: Pālehua Hike & Overnighter @ Camp Pālehua
-What to Bring/Wear: Covered shoes, shorts/long pants, WMAFS t-shirt, water bottle, back pack (to carry lunch, water, notebook, and other personal items/medications), hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses, overnight items
-Huaka'i Topics: Geology of Wai'anae

Friday June 17, 2016: Kalaeloa National Wildlife Refuge
-What to Bring/Wear: Covered shoes, shorts/long pants, WMAFS t-shirt, water bottle, back pack (to carry lunch, water, notebook, and other personal items/medications), hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses

-Huaka'i Topics: Geology of Wai'anae, historical and cultural significance of Pālehua & Palikea

Tuesday June 21, 2016: Wai'anae Kai Forest Reserve
