By Marian June 16, 2016 Our geology hike took place on Piliokahe, a mountain in Nanakuli Valley. The peak of Piliokahe is to the right if you are looking towards the back of Nanakuli Valley. We began our hike at Camp Palehua. Our hike leader was Dr. Scott Rowland, who is a Geology professor at University of Hawaii at Manoa. Dr. Rowland spoke to us about the different types of rocks we encountered on the hike like dike rocks, and he also spoke to us about the different stages of the rock cycle. Our hike ended at the top of Nanakuli valley where we could see our high school and community. It was hot, but nice to see our home and Wai‘anae! |
